Three Projects Delivered by Paragon Win RIBA London Regional Award!

We’re delighted with the news that three projects delivered by Paragon have been named as winners of the 2017 RIBA London Regional Awards.

‘Mathematics: The Winton Gallery’ at The Science Museum was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.  The judge’s report says “The project is finished to an exacting standard, whilst robust enough to handle the 3.5million visitors the Science Museum attracts each year. Walls are subtly modelled in gypsum; the floating pod structure is precisely engineered and the precast concrete benches and new floor surfaces are seamless and refined.”

A second project at The Science Museum, designed by Coffey Architects, is ‘The Dana Research Centre’ and Library. The panel commend the team on producing “an elegant new space for the museum, which is simply ordered and well detailed. Although internal, the new screen animates the façade to the courtyard whilst improving the proportions of the existing building.”

And finally, ‘The Loom E4’, about which RIBA said “The jury appreciated the clear and simple layout of the typical floors. The detailing is beautifully executed. Decisions about what to remove, what to keep, and how to make new additions, have been extremely well considered. The project was carried out while significant areas of the building remained in occupation and now delivers an attractive work space; elegantly organised and well resolved in relation to items such as bicycles and refuse; while also celebrating the building’s history in a meaningful way.”

Overall, the Jury Chair Matthew Lloyd said, “The year has demonstrated once again the breadth of the capital’s architectural output at the very high level that the RIBA programme requires, and the juries took enormous pleasure in selecting a most exemplary set of schemes.”

Selected from an 85-strong shortlist, the fifty projects will now go on to compete in RIBA’s National Awards program, the winners of which will create the shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize – the highest award for architecture in the UK.
